27-year-old Lee Johnston is both an accomplished short circuit and pure road-racing competitor. The diminutive Ulsterman honed his skills with top-flight British championship competition, winning the Junior Superstock title in 2008. He then went on to become a regular front-runner in the British Supersport class, but is now regarded as one of International Road Racings rising young stars.
His Isle of Man TT debut in 2012 was well documented as a high profile newcomer, and the Maguiresbridge lad went on to lift the Monster Energy Privateers Championship at the 2013 event with East Coast Racing
The quirky young Ulsterman set a blistering lap of 126.358mph on his way to 11th place in the Senior TT in 2013 aboard his privateer Honda, and followed it up with a double podium, and a phenomenal 131mph lap at the Ulster Grand Prix in August of the same year.
In 2014 Johnston raised the bar once again with a double at the North West 200 in the Supertwin class; bravely picking himself up off the tarmac after getting taken out of a race winning position in the Supersport encounter.
He also tasted success for the first time at Scarborough during the 2014 Gold Cup event in the Supersport class, where he also took the same 600cc machine to third place in the feature Gold Cup event at Olivers Mount. His 2014 season ended at Macau with a fine fourth place for East Coast Racing.
2015 was a great year for Lee and the East Coast Racing team. The Ulsterman took the Superstock win at the North West 200, posted his first TT podium in the same class and went on to win three races and the Man of the Meeting award at the Ulster Grand Prix.
